The TED conferences were born in 1984, thanks to architect and designer Richard Saul Wurman, who noted a convergence among the fields of technology, entertainment and design. That first, invitation-only session featured demos of the compact disc, the e-book and 3D graphics, and mathematician Benoit Mandelbrot demonstrated how to map coastlines using his developing theory of fractal geometry. That first event lost money, but when Wurman and his partner Harry Marks tried again in 1990, the money worked out, and TED became an annual event in Monterey, inviting people from all kinds of disciplines who wanted to share their ideas.
“That’s exactly what makes this Cinderella such a fun ballet to present,” Ryken says, “Everyone knows the story; you don’t have to go to ballet classes to understand it, It has a clear nutcracker ballet greeting card. features painting "marie had really seen all those things." by halthegal faerie tale storyline, it’s funny and it engages the whole crowd, no matter who you are.”, The humor Ryken refers to comes courtesy of Cinderella’s interactions with her two wicked stepsisters and equally unfriendly stepparents, “In some professional companies they’ll use two men to play the stepsisters, which is very Shakespearean,” Ryken laughs, “I wanted to give our girls the chance to play the characters, and use humor in how they interact with each other, There’s almost a competition among them as to who’s funnier; they’re really pushing themselves to see which version of the production is most exciting.”..

Known as “Machijirushi,” the kite’s origins date back to a time when families saved for years to purchase a kite bearing the name of their first-born sons. Districts competed in teams and the child whose kite endured to the end was supposed to grow up prosperous and strong. Today, civic pride and the continuity of life are celebrated at the city of Hamamatsu’s annual Matsure (festival), which draws 1.5 million people. If giant, stunt-capable kite displays are not enough, there are bounce houses for children who want to “be a kite and go airborne” and food vendors to bring them back to earth.
